What a week of groupings and another week with a lot to talk about. It was a rainy week 4 with no wind and hardly a cart girl, who made one pass on the first hole and never returned. Notable purchases from the clubhouse included Cav’s new Timber Ridge Callaway pullover, which as commissioner of the league should’ve been given to him for free. Not a ton of action on the range, most players are learning to trust their swings and spend time drinking, smoking and chipping on the practice green pre-round, which sounds about right for this group.
Group One: Johnny & Rico Jr. vs. Ryan & Tommy Group Of The Week
If you had an idea how this group would shake out, I can promise you were wrong. Something has happened to Ryan’s swing and after arriving an hour early to hit the range, Ryan developed a strong case of the yips and is shanking every shot he takes. It was worse than Space Jam when the players lose their talent. However, with Ryan doing nothing important, this was a Rico / Tommy showdown and Tommy said what you can do, I can do better. Both players played out of their minds with Rico shooting another 41 in back to back weeks and Tommy shooting a 43. Due to the matchplay format, Tommy was able to carry this grouping to 3 up with 2 to play with his strongest performance to date. Ryan and Johnny both battled to stay under 60.
Group Two: Cavs Sr. & Rico Sr. vs. George & Jack
The featured picture this week might give you an idea of how this group went. What was hyped up in the papers as potential group of the week, it was anything but. This group played 9 holes at an 18 hole pace, holding up group three all round as they enjoyed their time and battled through backs locking up with every shot. George had no problem taking his time, helping him to be dialed in around the greens, never letting Cavs and Rico Sr. in it. Cavs had high hopes to secure points this week, especially sporting the new Callaway jacket and shooting an impressive 47, but goes another week scoreless, thinking what more can he possibly do to make his mark on the leaderboard.
Group Three: Eckl & Bryce vs. Jake & JGing
Vegas odds had this one heavily favored in the Bryce pairing as originally it was Bryce & Buster, however due to a late withdrawal from Buster odds shifted as Eckl stepped in again as the league’s super-sub to take on Jake and Ging. Upon hearing the news Ging would battle Eckl for a 3rd time in 4 weeks, the pressure was just too much. The team doctor has reported that Ging has been seeing Eckl in his dreams because all he wants is a stress-free week of golf. In the end, the Bryce/Eckl dynamic was overpowering and both Jake and Ging slide further down the leaderboard. After holding a place in number 1 after week 2, Sciortino’s momentum has come to a screeching halt and looking to next week, may need to link up with Cavs to talk strategy on how to hit the ground running in week 5.
