85 and sunny for week 5 with a LOT on the table. In what was the most anticipated week of the league so far, with matchups so good you couldn’t script them any better. Notable purchases this week were Rico Sr.’s new spikes, Johnny’s ice cream sundae dessert, and Jake’s 5 pound taco salad at dinner. Another horrible week for the food times on the turkey club as everyone was done eating by the time Eckl got it. Possibly one of the best menu items but we now know for sure you will be waiting a while to get it. Hats off to the chef this week, who makes it into our featured picture… but we may have altered the photo to show him in front of his future home..

Group One: Cavs & Jake vs. J Ging & Tommy

FIREWORKS  to start this matchup as Jake got the whole course’s attention with an exploding golf ball off the first tee! This matchup went the distance with Jake and Cav’s fighting to stay above all round. Trading one up to one down all the way around, Sciortino had a chance to seal the victory on the 8th hole but a collapse on the green led it to being all square going into the last. Whenever a matchup is square going into the last, you can bet someone will collapse.. but you wouldn’t bet that all 4 players would collapse. With tee shots flying OB and one whiff, it felt like everyone was starting on their 4th shot off the box, even a few shanks and a long club throw by Sciortino on the second shot.  But, as we’ve seen in the past, there is just something about J Ging having to make a putt on the last green. With a chance to win, Ging didn’t have the magic this week, and a 3 putt pushed this round into a tie. Hats off to Cav’s for securing his first points and pulling off what Vegas would deem as an upset, especially with Tommy’s stellar play as of late.

Group Two: Ryan & Eckl vs. Buster & George Group Of The Week

George can finally breathe as the stress of thinking about this matchup is finally over. What was anticipated to be the round of the year took a turn as Rico Jr. had to bow out last second and ask league super-sub Eckl to take his spot. Making Rico Jr. proud, Eckl played lights out shooting near even par all the way until the last hole. Call it pressure, call it the heat, call it whatever but something happened to the Masi pair this week, as Buster’s drive was leaking left and right all round, as this pairing couldn’t seem to find a rhythm.  Some chirping from Ryan and Eckl may have gotten in their heads as the mental game was always going to be what gave this team an edge this week, and even led to an uncharacteristic club throw from Geo towards the end. Either way, the Masi force is one to be reckoned with, as this pair will link up two more times before the end of season.

Group Three:  Johnny & Bryce vs. Rico Sr & Turrisi

Fresh off a lesson for both Johnny and Bryce, this matchup could’ve gone either way. However, Rico Sr. had some fresh new spikes and no back pain which bumped up his drive distance to over 100 yards. Tony Turrisi was our guest appearance this week, filling in for Jack who was off developing his game in the Dominican, and had the time of his life getting the full signature league experience. Cigars, pipes, tunes and beer filled this cart and I’m surprised there was any golf played at all! With both Bryce and Johnny working on their games, this matchup was theirs for the taking – especially with Bryce’s pre-game routine of smoke, nap, taco bell, and an early range session. But veteran golf took this one, and left Johnny desperately wondering when he will see points this year.
