Week 7 has come and gone, marking the halfway point in the first ever Signature Open League. That being said, there needs to be a reminder on post-round etiquette, as half of the players grabbed dinner before the final group had finished. While Group 3 was locked in a battle, all the other players lost interest in watching and were off fishing with Luka, grabbing shots with the locals, eating dinner or working on the putting green. Also the etiquette on players continuously forgetting to say goodbye to Ariana, but that one may be excusable because we’re not used to interacting with women on league night.
Group One: Rico Sr. & J Ging vs. Ryan & Tommy Group Of The Week
Next year’s schedule needs to make sure the pair of Rico Sr and J-Ging get to play more because the chemistry in that cart was magical. Ryan & Tommy were driving balls down to the green and were playing lights out golf, jumping to a quick 2-hole lead after 2 – but Ging turned the putter on, sinking putts from everywhere and the team won the next two holes making it all square. Taking the group to the drivable par-4, Ryan stepped on one with the 3-wood and drove it to within 2-feet of the pin for eagle. Ging and Rico Sr. took off to go search for lost clubs, icing Ryan and then Ging hits a 20ft birdie putt to add even more pressure. Sinking the Eagle, Ryan & Tommy jumped back out to a two hole lead, until Rico Sr dunked a chip on 17 to pull within 1. Going into the last, this group had enough High Lifes, Xtreme Twisted Teas, Zyns, and pipe hits to make John Daily proud, and was one of the best rounds of the season, carding – R:42, T:44, G:45 & RSr:46.
Group Two: Johnny & Jack vs. Buster & Rico Jr
A tale of two matches in this one. There was the match between the two pairings, but there definitely was the unspoken match between the Buster and Rico Jr. pairing – whether they want to admit that or not, we all knew it was happening. After a quick distraction and an explosive golf ball off the first tee shattering Johnny’s ear drums, this one was off to a hot start. But, the competition didn’t last too long as Buster and Rico Jr. strung together the two lowest scores of the season and a personal best for Rico Jr., carding a 38 & 39. Hard to win when the other pairing is shooting sub 40 rounds but hats off to the two, as they are playing at a very high level of golf lately.
Group Three: Cavs & George vs. Bryce & Jake
No glove on a 90 degree humid day was quite the risk for Cavs this week, as clubs were flying everywhere after impact. That being said, tension was high in this group as there was very little talking, especially between Cavs and Jake which you wouldn’t expect to see. Both groups desperately searching for the win to move up the leaderboard caused the pace of play to slow way down, which pushed this group to three holes behind group 2 at one point. Bryce put his lessons to good use this week and strung together par after par, playing arguably his best golf of the season which you would think would push this group to a W. But Cav’s short game never let them in. Being 1-Up going into the last, all Jake and Bryce could hope for was a tie, but Geo again wouldn’t let them in, matching Jake on the hole and sealing the win. Jake and Bryce may not have deserved the loss this week, but look forward to a strong rebound from the two in the weeks to come, especially the next week as the pair will be facing each other in opposing carts.
