After a rollercoaster week for the crew and with many players coming off a grind of a course in Lake Placid, what better way to start off week 9 than with wine and cheese night? With the sun beating down on us, Rico was very excited to enjoy a refreshing glass of red wine. In other news, Rashad was ready to go this week after the round, sending out the turkey clubs first as the boys enjoyed the Yankees and tunes while yelling at Luka.
Group One: Jake & Rico Jr vs. Rico Sr & Bryce
As shown in the picture, there were two players here to enjoy themselves and two players that were all business. You could probably guess which were which. With the ‘Bald Eagles’ (Jake & Rico Jr.) the first ones on the range this week, there was no talking as the Eagles were ready to solidify their claim as the most feared duo in the league. On the other side, Bryce and Rico held hands and played Sinatra to get the round started, as if they were on a Gondola ride in Venice. Maybe to their advantage, the Eagles got off to a slow start and this round went all the way to the end. Coming into the last the Eagles were only up 1 and ended up tying the hole to seal the win. Looking ahead to the Ricotta pairing next week, we are wondering if the chemistry will even come close to the chemistry Bryce and Rico had, as Rico claimed it was a top 7 night of his life.
Group Two: Cavs & Tommy vs. George & Jack Group Of The Week
On paper Vegas had this going either way, but this group earned group of the week from two standout performances from Tommy and Geo. Shooting a personal best and near league low 39, Tommy was dialed and finally got his short game back. But… putting on his cape, Geo once again proved why he is one of the best players in this league, sinking putts from the heavens and never letting Tommy and Cavs in it. Reports were that no matter how well Tommy played, Geo could be 10, 20, 30 feet away and it didn’t matter, that putt was going in. Carding a 41, Geo and Jack grabbed this win leaving Cavs and Tommy speechless as they felt they were robbed of points. Cavs in awe of Geo’s putting performance fell a notch on the leaderboard after a quick run up to the middle of the pack just a few weeks ago.
Group Three: Ryan & Eckl vs. Johnny & JGing
The original pairing here was Buster & Ryan vs Ging and Johnny, but due to work complications, Buster had to withdraw and Ging’s most feared rival Eckl once again arrived to make Ging’s nightmare come to life. Discussions were had pre-round whether the Ging and Johnny pairing wanted the Ryan pairing to move back to the blues, play a scramble, etc., but Ging said I fear no man and wanted the match straight up. On a mission to cover the Vegas odds of -6.5, Ging and Johnny started beautifully pushing the first 2 holes. With only needing to cover one more, Ryan & Eckl went on to win the next 6, bringing it to the last hole for Ging to cover. After Johnny turned the 18th hole into a half an hour cruise, Ryan & Eckl finished with Bogeys and left Ging the space to cook. Piping an iron to green side, he had to get up and down to win, or 2-putt to tie and cover. Hitting a beautiful chip, Ging left himself a short one for par which turned into a two-putt and after a long grind, did what he set out to do and covered the spread!
